This is the first in a new series of highly illustrated books for the model maker. Basic Aviation Modelling is an excellent introduction to the art of making model aeroplanes from kits. High definition pictures take the reader through all the stages of making a variety of kits. The emphasis throughout is to make the tasks understandable in a step-by-step format. Working with readily available kits from Tamiya, Verlinden and Revell, the less experienced modeller is shown the do's and don'ts of modelling techniques with particular emphasis on the common difficulties that the inexperienced modeller might face. This series will build into a library of practical information for the modeller.

This volume initiated a new modeling series by Verlinden Publications to deal with todays high standards of scale modeling. This book is divided into six sections, each dealing with a different model of an aircraft from the second world war. With one exception, the models were made by the professional staff at Verlinden Productions Studios using the highly detailed Verlinden Productions resin and photo-etched model aircraft detail sets. They were each photographed and documented at various stages of development, and finally incorporated into attractive diorama settings. Each article describes in-depth the construction, detailing, painting, and weathering of each model in such a way as to guide the reader through the process so that he may benefit from the professional tips and techniques revealed therein. One of the articles, which is of a beautifully detailed 1:32 scale P-51D Mustang, was built and photographed by the very accomplished Spanish modeler, J.M. Villalba. Amo! ng the other models described are a famous German fighter, a Messerschmitt Me-109G2 in 1:48 scale, displayed in a North African desert setting undergoing engine maintenance, a very highly detailed 1:48 He-219 UHU German nightfighter being inspected by U.S. Troops on a captured German airfield, and a 1:48 scale TBF Avenger crew bailing out after ditching in the high seas. Another 1:48 scale German airplane, the Focke Wulf FW-190 D-9, is depicted undergoing general maintenance in a workshop, revealing details like the engine and guns, and finally, a beautifully weathered 1:48 PBY-5A Catalina seaplane, which is attractively displayed rescuing downed fliers on the high seas. Following the Verlinden hallmark, this book is full of beautiful full color photographs of extremely attractive scale models, and promises to please with more books in the series to follow. An excellent book for anyone who has ever built a scale model airplane, as well as anyone who is fascinated with aviation history.

In 1939, the German Air Ministry asked aircraft manufacturers for proposals for an "Amerikabomber," an ultra-long-range, four-engined aircraft capable of attacking the United States from airfields in Germany. Projects were tendered by Junkers, Focke-Wulf, and Messerschmitt. The latter proposed the Me 264 and Messerschmitt’s personal influence was such that he was not only allowed to go ahead with the design, but was also given an immediate order for three aircraft. Using original German documentation and rare photographs, this book details the story of the remarkable Amerikabomber projects. Aircraft types featured in the book include the Me 264, the Ta 400, Fw 238, Ju 390 and the jet-powered Ho XVIII B flying wing. The book also examines the reality behind the myth associated with Germany’s atomic bomb carrier.
