Designed to replace larger 4 engined patrol aircraft, the graceful P4M was built around 2 R-4360 radials and 2 J33 jet engines. The Mercator became famous as an intelligence collection aircraft flying electronic surveillance missions against Russia, Red China and North Korea, a role eventually taken over by the 1/3 smaller and less powerful P2V Neptune. The P4M-1Qs flew in this role from 1952 thru 1960 and at least 2 aircraft were shot down by hostile countries. |

The revolutionary all-metal monoplanes designed during WWI under the direction of Professor Hugo Junkers were the progenitors of a long and incredibly successful line of aeroplanes. The J.9/D.I monoplane arrived too late to influence the fortunes of the German Army Air Service and any operational activities were limited to postwar fighting in Poland yet it is deserving of an important position in German military aviation history. In a period of wooden, wire-braced, fabric-covered biplanes and triplanes, the products of Junkers Werke stand apart as being ahead of their time in several respects. |

Structural Acoustics and Vibration presents the modeling of vibrations of complex structures coupled with acoustic fluids in the low and medium frequency ranges. It is devoted to mechanical models, variationalformulations and discretization for calculating linear vibrations in the frequency domain of complex structures. Structural Acoustics and Vibration considers the mechanical and numerical aspects of the problem, and gives original solutions to the predictability of vibrations of complex structures interacting with internal and external, liquid and gaseous fluids. It is a self-contained general synthesis with a didactic presentation and fills the gap between analytical methods applied to simple geometries and statistical methods, which are useful in high frequency structural acoustic problems. |
