This is the first and last book you'll ever need to study Art Nouveau.
This is a huge encyclopaedic magnum opus, all you need to get started studying this subject. The text is kept very brief to concentrate the attention on the artworks depicted. And what Artworks! Prepair to enter a new breath taking realm with the depth, breadth and dynamism of the imagery. It is sumptuous, sensual and even erotic! I first came across this work whilst at school in the late 70s and it had a profound impact upon me. I still cherish the book.
Basicaly the book relates the evolution of Art Nouveau throughout the world, from Europe to the US.
There are books with more information and research on specific figures in the Art Nouveau movement, but I dont think there are many books with such a complete collection of all the principal artists as Masini's book.
It is possibly a touch too chunky and heavy to carry round Europe with you, but you will have to buy it to plan your route, as it catalogues everything you will need see.
See if you can find an old copy (If your Italian, your lucky because it was originaly published in Italy) The colour reprographic work was of better quality in the first editions, some later editions look a little tired and dull.
Dont let that put you off though! A great many art books cost a small fortune and are only available to the select few. Not this book, it is extremely good value.
Use this book as a springboard to hone and refine your study and appreciation of the wonderful world of Art Nouveau.
If you love art and are drawn to Art Nouveau, then love this book.
