The story of HMS Belfast, a Town Class cruiser, is a remarkable and vital one. Commissioned at the outbreak of World War 2, she became one of the first victims of the German magnetic mine. After two years of re-building she emerged as one of the most modern equipped cruisers of the time and joined the fleet that covered the terrifying convoys to Russia. She was in the only radar controlled "big ship" action when the Scharnhorst was sunk. After World War 2 she spent most of her commissions in the Far East as a flagship and part of various "peace-keeping" fleets.

Along with their German counterpart Fokker, Sopwith Aeroplane Company produced the most important and influential aircraft of World War I. Using designs based on prewar Schneider Cup-winning biplanes, the British manufacturer built such seminal models as the Pup, Snipe, and Camel. With a thorough history and large selection of period photography, Mick Davis reveals the common threads that linked Sopwith designs, and describes their service as the quintessential Allied aircraft of World War I.

Yamato, named after the ancient Japanese Yamato Province, was the lead ship of the Yamato class of battleships that served with the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. She and her sister ship, Musashi, were the heaviest and most powerfully armed battleships ever constructed, displacing 72,800 tonnes at full load and armed with nine 46 cm (18.1 inch) main guns. Neither ship survived the war.

The Constitution was one of the US Navy's first six original frigates, ordered as a counter to the Barbary corsairs in the Mediterranean. Fast and heavily built, she was nominally rated as a 44 but mounted thirty 24-pdr and twenty-two 12-pdr cannon. Her most famous encounter, after which she became nicknamed 'Old Ironsides' due to British shot being seen bouncing off her hull, involved HMS Guerriere, which she smashed; the same treatment was meted out to HMS Java four months later. Now the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world, she is berthed in Boston Harbor.
