The redoubtable Focke Wulf 190 fighter - or, more precisely, the A, F and G models of the FW 190 - are described in this 1999 Squadron/Signal release by Brian Filley. Luftwaffe fans should enjoy this photo-packed tribute to what many believe was the Luftwaffe's best fighter. After a brief introduction to the FW 190's origin and early development, Filley covers each model in turn, describing the various sub-types such as A-1, A-2, A-3, etc. with text and numerous illustrations. When it first appeared in the fall of 1941, the FW 190 gave the Germans air superiority over RAF Spitfires and Hurricanes. It subsequently performed well against USAAF day bombers, flew nightfighter missions, was a very effective fighter-bomber and even served as a torpedo bomber! Filley's book includes over 100 b&w and color photographs; numerous side-views, four-views, scrap views of weapons, landing gear, wing details, etc.; and two pages of Don Greer color profiles.
