An opposing force (abbreviated OPFOR, used in the United States and Australia) or enemy force (used in Canada) is a military unit tasked with representing an enemy, usually for training purposes in war game scenarios. The related concept of aggressor squadron is used by some air forces.
This Worldwide Equipment Guide (WEG) serves as an interim guide for use in training, cimulations, and modeling. It provides the basic characteristics of selected equipment and weapons systems readily available to the capabilities-based OPFOR. Selected weapons systems and equipment are included in the categories of infantry weapons, infantry vehicles, reconnaissance vehicles, tanks/assault vehicles, antitank, artillery, air defense, engineer and logistic systems, rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft, and communications equipment. |

The United States Bell YFM-1 Airacuda was the first military aircraft produced by the Bell Aircraft Corporation. Originally designated the "Bell Model 1," the Airacuda first flew on 1 September 1937. The Airacuda was marked by bold design advances and considerable flaws that eventually grounded the aircraft.
The Airacuda was Bell Aircraft's answer for a "bomber destroyer" aircraft. Although it did see limited production, and one fully operational squadron was eventually formed, only one prototype and 12 production models were ultimately built, in three slightly different versions. |

The events of the past few years have clearly demonstrated that a strong and well organized air service is a vital accessory of the modern military machine. Withoutan efficient air service, an army is blind and impotent against an adversary so equipped. The strength of an effective air service is measured in thousands of properly manned aircraft, organized into properly balanced military aircraft units. This presumes an aircraft industry organized to meet every demand, and an extensive system of aircraft arsenals, depots, training bases and flying stations. A higlily trained, specialized personnel must be provided for the air service. Mechanical or technical training, knowledge and experience are essential. The value of supplementing such training by suitable theoretical instruction cannot be gainsaid. This manual is intended for use as a textbook, and as a reference work, for such theoretical instruction. The subject matter of the manual is based on rules, regulations and practice existing in the Aviation Section of the United States Army and upon common practice followed in foreign aviatic organizations. |
