1,261 of these carrier fighters were built. First flown in 1955, the Crusader was the Navy's first ship born fighter to exceed Mach 1 in level flight. The jet was retired in 1975. This book includes lots of excellent B&W photos, line drawings and a bit of narrative to describe each varient of the planes. There are two pages of color drawings to show different paint schemes used by the Navy and Marines. This book is perfect for modelers, naval aviation buffs who want to learn about the Navy's primary fighter before the F-4 Phantom stole the show. The Crusader is an interesting plane and this is an intersting book on that jet fighter.

This book provides a concise historical survey of the various types of aircraft used by the United States Army Air Corps, Army Air Forces, and Air Force, and the Navy and Marine Corps to accomplish air attack missions since 1926. The text covers four types of fixed-wing aircraft: designated attack aircraft; light, medium, and tactical bombers; fighter-bombers; and adapted attack aircraft. Reports on individual aircraft types include the aircraft's original military requirements, production history, and operational record, usually accompanied by photographs, illustrations, and technical specifications. Four appendices detail aircraft designations and nomenclature used throughout the military, the organizational structure of various military air units, aircraft designs that never made it into official service, and the evolution of attack aircraft weapons and tactics.

At only 36 inches wide, the AH 1A might be the skinniest helicopter ever developed. The thin face presented less area for opponents to see or fire on, and led to the Cobra's success. Fitted with 2.75 inch rockets, mini guns, and TOW anti tank rockets, Cobras still serve today. You will see detailed photos of cockpits, weapons systems and markings, as well as combat photos. Squadron publications provide modelers with in depth developmental histories of famous military aircraft, armor and ships. The books are particularly valuable in determining paint schemes.

The EA-6B Prowler is the primary tactical jamming aircraft of the US Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. After becoming operational in 1971, it soon entered combat in 1972 during the Vietnam War. Since then it has demonstrated its proven battlefield performance in joint strikes on Libyan terrorist-related targets in 1986, Operation DESERT STORM, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Manufactured by Northrop Grumman Aerospace Corporation, the EA-6B Prowler first became operational in 1971 with numerous upgrades in the years that followed. Its mission filled the need for a dedicated Electronic Warfare aircraft to provide an electronic countermeasure curtain for strike aircraft that was survivable in a tactical environment. The aircraft operates from aircraft carriers and from forward land bases.

The Convair B-58 Hustler was the first operational American high-speed jet bomber capable of Mach 2 supersonic flight. The aircraft was developed for the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command during the late 1950s. Despite its sophisticated technology and Mach 2 performance, its operational flexibility was limited by high costs and changing mission requirements leading to a brief career between 1960 and 1969. Its specialized role would be succeeded by other American supersonic bombers, the FB-111A and the later B-1 Lancer.
