In the Wehrmacht Divisional Organisation the provision of anti-tank capacity had special importance. From the time they started rearming the Germans recognised the necessity of having effective anti-armour protection; they had after all seen the effectiveness of mass tank attacks in 1917-18. They therefore made a generous allocation of anti-vehicle weapons throughout the Division. Reconnaissance and Infantry components both had their anti-tank companies or sections while other elements had a limited organic anti-tank capacity. The Division as a whole, however, was also provided with a specialist antitank unit which had its own, positive role to play. This, initially was called the Panzer Abwehr Abteilung (Anti-tank Abteilung or Battalion) was a Battalion-sized unit reporting direct to Divisional HQ and seen from the start as not only providing defence against enemy attacks but also as accompanying the assault units in an attack to destroy enemy armoured counterthrusts. Accordingly it was, from the start, fully motorised even in otherwise horse-drawn Divisions and the motorisation was not regarded merely as transport; it gave tactical mobility. Thus each gun detachment had two medium cars, one towing the weapon while the other towed a light two wheeled limber trailer with ready-use ammunition. The platoon had its own command vehicle and dispatch rider and the organisation was extremely flexible.

This book seeks to distil and bring together the best available information on the lightest of the German World War II tank models, the PzKpfw I and II. Although the least spectacular of German tanks, these types formed the larger part of the German armoured force's strength when it scored its most crushing victories, in Poland in 1939 and in France and the Low Countries in 1940. Given the plethora of books on German armour it is surprising how badly documented is the story of the PzKpfw I and II.

Panzerjäger (tank hunter) actually includes anyone who engages in seeking out and destroying enemy armor. The infantryman with his "Panzerfaust", "Bazooka", "Piat" or "Molotov cocktail", the gunner behind his artillery or anti-tank gun as well as the Ju 87 D's, HS 129's or Stormoviks whose pilots engaged themself in the role of Panzerknacker (tank busters). The most famous and successful was Oberst Hans Ulrich Rudel who alone was credited with the destruction of over 500 Red Tanks while flying his 3.7cm Flak armed Junkers Ju 87 D. In this volume however, it is our intention only to illustrate and discuss the weapon which was created for the sole purpose of seeking out and destroying enemy tanks, hunting for them, the PANZERJAGER and JAGDPANZER of the Second World War.

This 56 page book is heavily illustrated with over 130 scale drawings and 15 clear/rare large-format photos. The authors have spent hundreds of hours accurately measuring the surviving Panther II chassis and the Schmalturm and over a thousand hours drawing at full-scale to create as-built drawings for the first time - accurate to the same tight tolerances demanded of the original assembly firms. Extensive measurement of the Panther II chassis prove that its design is completely different than the Panther Ausf.F chassis. We have selected the unique approach of using 1/10th scale drawings to illustrate the smallest details, while six-view (including right side and belly) 1/35th scale drawings are still used for the complete Panther. We also created "flat-plane" drawings of many components to assist modelers in making accurate parts that would be hard to replicate if only drawn at the angle in which they are actually mounted. This book also includes the development history of these rare Panther variants.

The M3 Stuart, formally Light Tank M3 was an American light tank of World War II. It was used by British and Commonwealth forces prior to the entry of the USA into the war, and thereafter by US and Allied forces until the end of the war. The name General Stuart or Stuart given by the British comes from the American Civil War General J.E.B. Stuart and was used for both the M3 and M5 Light Tank; in British service it also had the unofficial nickname of Honey. To the United States Army the tanks were officially known only as Light Tank M3 and Light Tank M3A1-M3A3.

Tanks in the Cold War advanced to counter greater battlefield threats. Tanks became larger and their armour became thicker and much more effective. Advances in manufacturing late in the war allowed the mass production of composite armor. Aspects of gun technology changed significantly as well, with advances in shell design. During the 20th century, main battle tanks were considered a key component of modern armies. In the 21st century, with the increasing role of asymetrical warfare and the end of the Cold War, that also contributed to the increase of cost-effective Russian anti-tank weapons worldwide, the importance of tanks has waned. Modern tanks seldom operate alone, as they are organized into armoured units which involve the support of infantry, who may accompany the tanks in infantry fighting vehicles. They are also usually supported by reconnaissance or ground-attack aircraft
