В первой части книги (Геральдика и история) речь идет о причинах возникновения геральдики и о сути этого феномена, истории аристократического сословия, геральдических источниках. Понятие "опознавательный код" исследуется во второй части (Наука блазона). В третьей части (Мир геральдики) автор анализирует четыре подкода: цветовой, геометрический, символический и код градации по иерархическому принципу; каждый из них иллюстрируется исчерпывающим количеством иконографических примеров. Всего представлено более 5000 изображений: в основном это строго систематизированные дворянские фамильные гербы, а также гербы городов и государств.
Четвертая часть (Геральдика в истории) посвящена изучению различных направлений в геральдике, исследованию причин их возникновения и развития, неразрывно связанных с историей влиятельных и знатных европейских домов. В гербоведении еще до недавних пор использовалась методология XIX века, при этом две исторические дисциплины, возникшие в XX столетии - антропология и этология, - попросту не принимались в расчет, хотя сегодня невозможно серьезно заниматься геральдикой, не обращаясь к этим дисциплинам. Perhaps the most easily recognized military helmet of the 20th century is the German Stahlhel. In the revised and expanded edition of this classic, Floyd R. Tubbs and Robert w. Clawson identify and classify the Stahlhelm and relate its history, designs, features, and uses. No single nation has produced such a wide variety of helmets as did Germany in the early part of the last century, from civil defense to fire and police forces to airborne forces.
