The glory of the Imperial Guard resounds above all others in the annals of war. Created, built and nurtured as a bodyguard for Napoleon, it grew from a brigade of less than two thousand men into a virtual army, and became ‘a human fortress which no one but he could dominate and no enemy could penetrate’. And, on such battlefields as Austerlitz, Jena, Friedland, Wagram and Waterloo, it won the laurels of undying fame. Illustrated by one of the leading military artists, Herbert Knotel, this first volume covers all the foot, artillery, engineers and headquarters of the Imperial Guard.

The French Colonial Army 1832-1914 This is an excellent set of 36 prints was originally published in the early 1930’s. It covers the four most famous French foreign military organizations that supplied effective fighting forces for the French Government for over a Century; the Spahis, the Chasseurs d’Afrique, the Foreign Legion and the Algerian Tirailleurs. While the British has their Gurkas and Indian regiments, and the Germans their African troops no other nation fielded more effective and feared foreign troops than France. The Marbot Prints - These prints by different artists were published in France between 1840 and 1853. They were carefully researched and provide the best information we have on the French army from the early 1500's until the Napoleonic Wars. They are without question the foundation for most later works.
