The surfaces of interstellar and interplanetary grains, planetary satellites, ring particles, asteroids, Mercury and the Moon, etc. are all directly exposed to radiations. Solar wind, magnetospheric plasmas, cosmic rays, solar energetic particles, and U.V. photons can all produce chemical and physical alterations. Preface: ...Although there are several excellent texts available on the quantum theory of scattering, I felt it necessary to include Chapters 2 and 3 which introduce in a non-rigorous way the basic, formal framework of theory within which most models of direct reactions are embedded. Chapters 4 through 8 are concerned with the often tedious but very necessary matter of constructing detailed formulae for reaction amplitudes. Chapter 9 studies the structure of reaction amplitudes in a more general way, especially their symmetry properties.
