Одной из замечательных фигур среди плеяды ученых узбекского народа является Улугбек, основавший в XV веке астрономическую обсерваторию в Самарканде. Поэтому изучение его научного наследия представляет огромный интерес. В 1908 г. проводятся раскопки обсерватории Улугбека, с тех пор она исключительный памятник материальной культуры мирового значения.
