Coast lines have been and still are the central lines of civilization around the world with still increasing pressure from both sides – the hinterland and the sea – with all its foreseeable and unforeseeable impacts by means of nature or mankind. While the response of nature to such impacts is flexible in the way that all morphological changes with all the consequences are tolerated as part of the system, humanity cannot tolerate short-term or long-term changes without being threatened in its physical and economical existence.

Simple fact that Without water, there would be no life". Though we have moved a long way from traditional approach, both in terms of technology and management in the matter of drinking water supply but the increasing population has exerted tremendous pressure and stress on this natural resource. Urbanization and industrialization has bred enormous pollution into the fresh water system, i.e. Rivers, lakes and oceans. The alarming deterioration in the water quality has gone beyond comprehension. Potability of water is in jeopardy and public health hazards looming large. Recognizing the magnitudes of the problems, aspects and prospects, this natural resource need greater attention. The book "Waste Water Management"discusses about waste water treatment, distribution and its management. It is an attempt to explore most of the aspects related with waste water treatment and distribution systems. It is believed that it would be beneficial to all the interested scholars working in this and allied fields."

Solid Waste Recycling and Processing, 2nd edition, provides best-practice guidance to solid waste managers and recycling coordinators covering all aspects of solid waste processing, volume reduction and recycling, encompassing typical recyclable materials (paper, plastics, cans, and organics), construction and demolition debris, electronics, etc. It includes techniques, technologies, and programs to help maximize customer participation rates and revenues, as well as to minimize operating costs. The book is packed with lessons learned by the author during the implementation of the most successful programs worldwide. Numerous case studies are provided to show how different systems work in different settings. The author provides a critical survey of what has worked and what has not over recent years, and assess the next generation of challenges and possible solutions. For example, there is continuing debate within the industry about the merits of curbside sort versus single stream recycling and the use of advanced technology in materials recovery facilities. The book provides key facts and figures, and provides brief summaries of legislation in the United States, Europe, and Asia. An extensive glossary demystifies the terminology and acronyms used in different sectors and geographies. The author also explains emerging concepts in recycling such as zero waste, sustainability, LEED certification, and pay-as-you-throw, and place waste management and recycling in the wider context of economic, environmental (sustainability), political and societal factors. * Covers single and mixed waste streams* Evaluates the technologies and tradeoffs of recycling of materials vs. integrated solutions, including combustion and other transformational options* Covers recycling as part of the bigger picture of solid waste management, processing and disposal

Focused specifically on energizing and engaging materials for students, Miller and new coauthor Scott Spoolman have been at work scrutinizing every line--enhancing, clarifying, and streamlining to reduce word density as well as updating with the very latest environmental news and research. The resulting texts are shorter, clearer, and so engaging that students will actually want to read the assignments. The ideal alternative to ecology texts that tend to be too difficult for non-majors, this succinct 11-chapter, full-color textbook covers scientific principles and concepts, ecosystems, evolution, biodiversity, population ecology, and more.

This book provides a comprehensive introduction to and overview of eco-global criminology. Eco-global criminology refers to a criminological approach that is informed by ecological considerations and by a critical analysis that is global in scale and perspective. Based upon eco-justice conceptions of harm, it focuses on transgressions against environments, non-human species and humans. At the centre of eco-global criminology is analysis of transnational environmental crime. This includes crimes related to pollution (of air, water and land) and crimes against wildlife (including illegal trade in ivory as well as live animals). It also includes those harms that pose threats to the environment more generally (such as global warming). In addressing these issues, the book deals with topics such as the conceptualization of environmental crime or harm, the researching of transnational environmental harm, climate change and social conflict, threats to biodiversity, toxic waste and the transference of harm, prosecution and sentencing of environmental crimes, and environmental victimization and transnational activism. This book argues that analysis of transnational environmental crime needs to incorporate different notions of harm, and that the overarching perspective of eco-global criminology provides the framework for this. Transnational Environmental Crime will be an essential resource for students, academics, policy-makers, environmental managers, police, magistrates and others with a general interest in environmental issues.

It is estimated that roughly 1000 new ecological and environmental models join the ranks of the scientific literature each year. The international peer-reviewed literature reports some 20,000 new models spanning the period from 1970-2010. Just to keep abreast of the field it is necessary to design a handbook of models that doesn’t merely list them, but rather draws the state-of-the-art development of models for ecosystem and environmental management.
