This handbook summarizes the economics of sound trade policy, explains behind-the-door regulatory issues, and serves as a comprehensive reference on trade-related issues. Part I places trade policy reform in a development context and discusses key dimensions of reform. Part II deals with the main aspects of the World Trade Organization (WTO). Parts III, IV, and V cover the areas that are the subject of WTO rules: trade in goods; trade in services; and the protection of intellectual property. Part VI contains discussions of a number of regulatory issues. Specific process-related concerns of developing countries are the subject of part VII; these include participation in the WTO, capacity building, and implementation of WTO agreements. Finally, part VIII summarizes a number of rules of thumb for good trade policy and reviews approaches to using the WTO (and regional agreements) as instruments for promoting development. Also included are two CD-ROMs with relevant data and training material. The book has 55 chapters and a subject index.
