The epitomy of commerical jet airliner travel, the Boeing 707 served with all the principal carriers bringing new standards of comfort, speed and efficiency to airline passengers. Pan Am was the first major airline to order it and flew its fleet emblazoned with the famous 'Clipper' names. BOAC placed a substantial order and insisted on Rolls-Royce Conway engines rather than the Pratt & Whitney JT series engines favored by American customers. Very few 707s are now flying passengers and many military versions fly as AWACs, tankers or transports.

The A-4 Skyhawk was the workhorse of the Vietnam War. It flew more strike missions than any other Navy aircraft and its losses in combat amounted to 37% of all Navy combat losses. The Navy lost 195 A-4s out of 530 total losses. The next highest losses were in the F-4 community with 75. A-4 losses, especially in the A-4E, were so heavy at times that squadrons had to re-equip with older A-4C's as there weren't enough A-4 E's to fill the squadrons. This small, nimble, rugged, and dependable bomber was the perfect surgical weapon for the day war over Vietnam. In fact, the A-4E/F with is five pylons could carry more than twice the tonnage of bombs that a B-17 or a B-24 could drop on Germany.

The author has been an ardent modeller for nearly forty years, specialising in warships and aircraft and was the first modeller to win the Class Championship Cup for a plastic model aircraft at the Model Engineering Exhibition in 1969, and for a plastic ship model in 1973. Not only first with these two models but so far the only modeller to achieve the distinction. This book is distinguished in that it deals with the techniques of building models from plastic as distinct from assembling kits. When plastic became readily available Harry Woodman experimented and finally developed many techniques which have proved extremely successful and will be invaluable to the enthusiast modeller.

Air war as we know it began in the skies over France fifty years ago, and this volume looks at that war from the French side of the lines. In telling the stories of several gallant Gallic airmen-and of two Americans who chose to fight under the tricolor, eschewing Woodrow Wilson's plea for neutrality-the author pays tribute to all pioneer wartime aviators, whatever their nationality...

The Skyrocket story was originally published in the American Aviation Historical Society (AAHS) Journal in 1989. All of the comic book reading public during the 1940's followed the adventures of "Blackhawk" and his mighty men as they conquered the world of evil. Those of us with a mindbent toward things aeronautical knew that it was not "Superman" or "Batman" who held the keys to a crime-free society, bring on "Blackhawk." Dressed in daring dark uniforms, the dashing figures of this 1940's version of the "A-Team" were mounted on the very latest of aircraft. Through the paint brush the artist portrayed an entire squadron of snub-nosed twin engine fighters which those of us old enough to remember know that only a single actual aircraft existed for the artist to illustrate, the Grumman XF5F-1 Skyrocket.

The Douglas F5D-1 Skylancer was a progressive development of the F4D-1 Skyray. Many people believe that the Skylancer was a faster and better choice than its competitor, the Vought F8U Crusader. They believe that it had inherently better stretch potential to the point where it could have out-performed the F-4 Phantom if the J-79 engine had been installed as envisioned by Ed Heinemann.
