"Do not expect easy answers or simple solutions here on these pages. . . but then "that is the fun, the excitement, the joy of involvement in the warrior arts of accomplishment. . . . It pleases me no end to see the world at large now welcoming the knowledge of ninjutsu's ages in the form of these books by the art's grandmaster ." -- From the Foreword by Stephen K. Hayes In an uninhibited dialogue from a recent meeting with his top instructors from around the world, Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi discusses his personal journey through the mysteries of the ancient art of the phantom warrior. His topics cover the nutritional needs of a ninja, the changing physical attributes of the "new" ninja, details on training for the novice as well as the advanced student, and the spiritual aspects of ninja training and how it applies to the modern world. With numerous photos, Dr. Hatsumi demonstrates the extemporaneous techniques that flow from his form of training and how some of his top students have developed their own styles of ninjutsu. Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi, the grandmaster of the nine ninjutsu schools that comprise the ninja tradition, is an artist with brush and ink, a medical practitioner of seikotsu, and a prolific writer.

This description of the Hotchkiss revolving cannon pertains to the Army types, but a brief notice of the naval guns appears in th e Appendix. The breech mechanism of th e 1.85-inch naval gun is illustrated, partly because it is shown on a larger scale than that for the Army piece, and partly because it is a later type, and has some modifications introduced, A plate showing the deck carriage of the largest naval piece - the 2.1 inch - is also included.

One of the first Thunderbolt groups to see action in the European Theatre of Operations (ETO) with the US Army Air Forces, the 56th Fighter Group (FG) was also the only fighter unit within the Eighth Air Force to remain equipped with the mighty P-47 until war’s end. Led by the inspirational ‘Hub’ Zemke, this group was responsible for devising many of the bomber escort tactics employed by VIII Fighter Command between 1943 and 1945. By VE-Day the 56th FG had shot down 100 more enemy aircraft than any other group in the Eighth Air Force, its pilots being credited with 677 kills during 447 missions. The exploits of this elite fighter unit are detailed in this volume together with photographs, their aircraft profiles and insignia.

In the Army Acquisition community, it is our solemn responsibility to enable Soldiers to dominate the battlespace safely and securely by achieving the first look, first strike advantage with unprecedented speed, accuracy, and lethality. Soldiers are our most important customers. They are the focus of all our plans and are central to all that we accomplish. We are a workforce that is dedicated to meeting the needs of Soldiers around the clock and around the world. We are an organization comprised of 10 Program Executive Offices, two Joint Program Executive Offices, eight Deputy Assistant Secretaries, one Deputy for Acquisition and Systems Management, and several major subordinate commands of the U.S. Army Materiel Command. The Army Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology community joins with our key stakeholders to develop and field a versatile and affordable mix of weapon systems and equipment to allow Soldiers and units to succeed in full-spectrum operations and maintain our decisive advantage over any enemy we face. We make Soldiers strong by providing them with leading-edge technologies and advanced capabilities to dominate in our current operations across the battlespace, while simultaneously preparing them to respond decisively to future threats. In providing our Soldiers with world-class capabilities, we remain aware that our most important asset is our people. Our skilled and dedicated professionals execute diverse responsibilities on a daily basis to enable the disciplined management of an extensive acquisition portfolio of programs that include tactical wheeled vehicles; Soldier systems; air and missile defense; network; simulation; aviation; ground combat systems; intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance; and precision fires. These responsibilities include science and technology as well as research and development, program management, contracting, systems engineering, procurement policy, logistics policy, chemical weapons destruction and demilitarization, defense exports and international cooperation, and other areas. As we move forward, I will continue to emphasize sound business practices, program management, and effective execution of major weapons systems while we help the Army to prioritize capabilities and modify existing programs to achieve long-term success. With this in mind, I think all of you realize the future resource environment will be challenging. We can expect that budgets are going to be tighter, which means we have to become a lot more efficient in the way we do business. Every day America’s Soldiers put mission, unit, and country first. They serve with distinction in nearly 135 countries worldwide: Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia, Kuwait, the Sinai, South Korea, the Philippines, and on every continent. They face threats that constantly evolve, and their skill and courage in meeting these challenges is second to none. As you read this publication and learn more about the Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology community and our major acquisition programs, you will understand that our highest priority is to continually improve force protection and Soldier survivability. Soldiers are our most important customers. We will not let them down. Heidi Shyu Acting Assistant Secretary of the Army.

The best martial artists know what they want when they enter the arena, they know how to get it, and they're not afraid to go after it. The same could be said of great negotiators. This book uses the principles of martial arts to guide readers step-by-step, from basic techniques through advanced strategies, all the way to achieving their "black belt" in negotiating. Packed with quizzes, scripts, checklists, and even a Negotiating Rating Sheet for continual self-assessment, the book trains readers in martial arts--based negotiation fundamentals, including: Don't Fear the Blow - Black belts aren't afraid of being hit or they would never step onto the mat. Get over your fear of bargaining, and the fight is already won. Identify Vital Striking Points - Weaken others' positions by identifying what's most important to them...and bring down even the biggest opponent. Read Your Opponent - Counter an opponent's moves by honing in on what technique they're using - and hit them with the perfect response. Grounded in authentic martial arts tactics, this book turns novice bargainers into black belt negotiators who can get whatever they want out of any situation.
