This little book, while dealing with the Navy as a whole, will concentrate its attention mostly on the human element, and with that intimate knowledge that a life spent on board a ship-of-war gives.

A handy guide that gives an overview of the weapons used by Waffen-SS divisions in World War II. The work opens with a short introduction on the history of the Waffen-SS. The book sections include: Edged Weapons; Small Arms (pistols, submachine guns, rifles, machine guns: MG-34, MG-42, etc.); Artillery (Infantry, field, heavy); Armored Cars (SdKfz half-tracks, etc.); Tanks & SPWs. Nice photos of the items discussed. It is not an exhaustive tome on the subject but gives a nice overview of the commonly issued and used weapons/equipment.

The soldier slang of World War II was as colourful as it was evocative. It could be insulting, pessimistic, witty, and even defeatist. From 'spam bashers' to 'passion wagons' and 'roof pigs' to 'Hell's Ladies', the World War II fighting man was never short of words to describe the people and events in his life. "F***ed Up Beyond All Recognition" takes a frank look at the British, Commonwealth, American, German, Japanese and Russian slang used by the men on the ground, and shows how, even in the heat of battle, they somehow managed to retain their sense of humour, black though it might have been.

Язык: французский Collection Archéologie navale française. The collections of the Musée de la Marine possess an extraordinary number of ship's models of exceptional quality and interest. Only those models deemed to be representative of the apogee of the French sailing ship were selected for this publication. Without doubt more examples could have been chosen, but their publication would have required two volumes instead of one. We are proud to present this deluxe volume and hope that it will stimulate a further acquaintance with the "French Naval Archeology Collection". This new book addresses itself to specialists, be they ship's model builders or not, as well as to amateurs who will be enchanted by the beauty of the models. The combination of beautiful illustrations and an intriguing text make this an incomparable work. Superior quality photography allows the viewer to scrutinize the models more closely than if he or she were standing before the piece itself in its museum case. Our concern has also been to preserve this collection of photographs for future viewers as well as to expand its audience. These models constitute an exceptional body of documentation that is now safe from harm's way. The models are an evocative reminder of the sailing ships of yesteryear. Moreover they provide a storehouse of information not readily available from archival or printed sources. Recognizably an important element of our cultural heritage, they must be valued as such. We hope that readers will appreciate the caliber of the models as they discover the richness of the collections in the celebrated Musée de la Marine in Paris.

Jacob de Gheyn's 'Exercise of Armes' was an immense success when first published in 1607. It is a fascinating seventeenth-century military manual, designed to instruct contemporary soldiers how to handle arms effectively, and correctly, and it makes for a unique glimpse into warfare as waged in the Thirty Years War and the English Civil War. The manual uses illustrations to clearly demonstrate drills for soldiers employing calivers and muskets. It shows how to load and fire, or merely carry, a matchlock piece. In addition detailed illustrations show the various movements and postures to be adopted during use of the pike. There are 117 illustrations contained in this book and all are fine examples of seventeenth-century art.
