The distinguished career of the carrier Victorious extended from World War II to 1967. A major refit during the 1950's, saw her emerge as the Royal Navy's most advanced carrier in the world. The author's drawings show all the changes which she underwent during her long career, while the text focuses especially on her war service which included a number of daring airstrikes, most notably against the German battleships Bismarck and Tirpitz. Later she sailed for the Far East where she was part of the British Pacific Fleet; there she withstood several kamikaze attacks. The Lockheed T2V Seastar was the last variation on the P-80/T-33/F-94 family. Author/publisher Steve Ginter gives his standard adequate text, extensive photographic coverage. There are also numerous contemporary technical manual illustrations reproduced. Since the squadron service of this aircraft was brief and not particularly widespread Ginter tries to show a photo of each individual aircraft. Although most of the photos are portrait shots there are a number of detailed closeups. The book closes out with the normal review of plastic model kits. |

The Douglas XTB2D-1 was one of a seemingly endless number of aircraft developed in the US during WWII which only flew in prototype form at or after the war. The end of the war, the change in requirements dictated by the course of the war, and the advent of jet propulsion insured that most of them never entered production. Author Bob Kowalski has gathered all the documentation he could find on this aircraft. His selection of photographs and manufacturer's drawings are supplemented by a short but very informative text. This aircraft had many very interesting technical features and Kowalski has tried (and mostly succeeded) to do justice to them all. |

The Lockheed Constellation ("Connie") was a four engine (each with 18 pistons of Radial design, the Wright R-3350) propeller-driven airliner built by Lockheed between 1943 and 1958 at its Burbank, California, USA, facility. The Constellation was used as a civilian airliner and as a U.S. military air transport plane. Military versions included the C-69 and C-121 for the Army Air Forces/Air Force and the R7O R7V-1 WV-1 (L-1049G) WV-2 (L-1049H) (famously Willie Victor) and many variant EC-121 designations for the Navy. |
