During the first phase of World War II, the German forces advancing on all fronts, the Ju87 Stuka had been an essential element in the Luftwaffe's armory attack. However, from mid-1943 as the War drug on, the Stuka began incurring heavy losses. Dunkirk, Warsaw, Rotterdam, and other early victories became distant memories as severe reversals came about in the East. Wherever possible and often against overwhelming resources, the Stukas supported the retreating German armies by conducting not just precision dive-bombing missions, but low-level ground attack operations against enemy transport targets, gun positions, and ships. This second and concluding volume in this series examines the role of the Stuka during these years of retreat. Aspects of the Stuka's role, which the book recounts, includes the attacks against the Malta convoys, the retreat in North Africa, the war over the Arctic, the Russian campaign including the battle for Stalingrad, and the collapse of the Eastern front. This volume contains an impressive selection of historic photos, color artworks, and first-hand accounts from those who flew the aircraft.

The Il-2 Shturmovik was the workhorse of the Soviet Airforce and raised havoc with the German and their allied Axis forces invading the USSR and occupying Eastern Europe. One time during the war it was said that one of the factories in the Soviet Union which produced the famous ground attack aircraft fell behind in its production of IL-2's and Stalin himself issued a final warning to them, ordering them to produce their expected level or numbers of production or face dyre consequences. This aircraft was so versatile and their crews became so experienced they were credited with actually shooting down German and other Axis fighters in dogfights, which in military aviation is a miracle. This ground attack aircraft relentlessly followed the Nazi enemy into their capital Berlin, causing them devastating losses. It was also dubbed "The Flying Tank". This is the history of this Soviet ground attack aircraft. 3pp scale drawings. 20 colour profiles. 130 b/w photos. Dual Czech/English text.

Using a similar format to the very popular Jagdwaffe series, Sea Eagles offers readers a two-volume study into maritime and anti-shipping operations as conducted by the Luftwaffe over the English Channel, North Sea, the Far North and Baltic, the Eastern Front and the Mediterranean. For the first time, these books contain a fascinating and eclectic mix of float-planes and multi-engined bombers converted to anti-shipping duties. There are also studies of some of the more interesting weaponry used by German bomber units operating in such a role, such as the Rheinstahl PC 1400 X Fritz X radio-guided bomb and the Henschel 293 rocket-driven remotely-controlled stand-off missile as used against destroyers in the Mediterranean as well as biographies of some of the leading anti-shipping aces, such as Aufhammer. Alongside the photographic content, much of which is previously unpublished, the book also includes color artworks and first-hand reminiscences from Luftwaffe pilots of the era. The sea-strike and maritime units are amongst the least known of the Luftwaffe s fighter force during World War II; this new two-volume work sets the record straight, providing the aviation and military historian with a comprehensive and detailed study of this often ignored facet of the air war between 1939 and 1945.

The OA vz. 30 (Obrneny automobil vzor 30) was a Czechoslovak-designed armored car used by Nazi Germany, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary during World War II. Fifty-one were built, of which the Germans seized twenty-four when they occupied Bohemia-Moravia in March 1939 and the Slovaks captured eighteen when they declared independence from Czechoslovakia at the same time. Romania acquired nine when Czech troops sought refuge in Romania after the Hungarian invasion of Carpatho-Ukraine that same month. Slovak vehicles saw combat in the Slovak-Hungarian War, the invasion of Poland, the opening months of Operation Barbarossa and the Slovak National Uprising. This book includes details of the development and combat usage of this car. Dual czech/english text, colour profiles, line drawings.

Rommel's advance into Egypt forced the Allies to retreat to the El Alamein defenses. As the British Eighth Army prepared for a massive offensive attack, there followed a period of stalemate on the ground, but in the air the Luftwaffe was faced with a numerically superior force. Luftwaffe's fighter units, outnumbered and continually starved of supplies, fought on in support of Rommel's final battles in North Africa and against the vital British island fortress of Malta. Eventually forced to tranfer units from an already critical situation on the Russian Front, German fighter pilots faced growing Allied air power but achieved some outstanding successes, and for a while the battle for Malta hung in the balance. German and Italian forces in North Africa were eventually defeated by superior Allied forces, ULTRA intelligence and the 'Torch' landings. This title tells the story of the German fighter force in North Africa from the El Alamein offensive in October 1942 to final defeat in Tunisia in May 1943. Contains numerous first-hand accounts.

This book covers the events of the last few days of World War II on the soil of what is now the Czech Republic. The book commences with an overview of events in the European Theatre of Operations in 1945 and then looks in depth at the Soviet, American and German armies’ operations in the Czech Lands. Set against this the book also tells of the events surrounding the Czech National Uprising of May 1945 and effectively the rebirth of the Czechoslovak Army after the long years of German occupation. The book also analyses the role of the smaller national armies engaged in the conflict and of the post-war cleanup of war material from Czechoslovak territory. Packed full of rare photos (inc. some in colour), maps and diagrams, 7 pages of colour art profiles of tanks and vehicles and 2 pages of unit shoulder patches and badges, in colour, plus 2 in black and white of Soviet tank insignia and German Army insignia, as well as orders of battle for May 1945 conclude this valuable reference book for the historian and modelling enthusiast alike.
