There were 11 different classes of Heavy Cruisers created by the US before/during WW2. Part 1 covers the first four. An excellent blend of the history of US heavy cruisers, development of each class and what makes one different from the other. The B&W photos help show the gun positions, the lines of each class and there are two pages of color plates showing the camoflague schemes used during the war. Of particular interst are photos showing battle damage encurred and how these ships could take unbelievable punishment. Plenty of data and statistics, line drawings that show the planes, different weapons used (gun mounts from 20mm all the way up to 8" cannon), radar masts. A really great book for modelers and those who want to get an introduction of US cruisers that were built and used to great effect in WW2.
